Like colorless diamonds, colored diamonds also exist naturally, only that their formation process is a bit different. When extreme temperatures alter a diamond's chemical composition, it reflects light differently, making our eyes perceive specific colors. That's why diamonds exist in red, blue, yellow, brown, and pink, among other colors.
The Most Expensive Diamond Colors
Some chemical processes are scarce, meaning specific diamond colors are also hard to find. As you'd expect, precious yet rare minerals are expensive. To determine the price of a colored diamond, a laboratory grader evaluates the color of the diamond and names it according to the color combinations found in it. The color's hue, saturation, and tone are also determined, with more profound and intensely-colored diamonds costing more.
Red Diamonds
Red diamonds are the rarest and most expensive colored diamonds. The high value is due to their intense color and rarity. There are only about 20 to 30 red diamonds all over the earth, making them highly costly. On average, one carat of red diamond costs about $1 million, an amount way higher than what a carat of colorless diamond would cost.
Blue Diamonds
Although blue diamonds are still rare, their rarity is nothing compared to red diamonds. They also fall in the category of expensive colored diamonds.
Pink Diamonds
Pink is naturally a fancy and romantic color. As such, pink diamonds are also pricey, even though they are not as rare compared to red and blue ones.
